120-240 mg per day of standardized EGb 761 (24% ginkgo flavone glycosides) is the extract standard nearly the whole evidence base was built on. Kang 2002, a small early RCT in 37 adults on fluoxetine or paroxetine, was positive; three later RCTs were null, which is why the effect direction here reads null. This floor is about the extract and dose standard, not a promise of effect.

Trial floors
Primary
Standardized EGb 761 extract (Kang 2002) · 120–240 mg over 8+ weeks · Primary endpoint missed — 120-240 mg per day of standardized EGb 761 (24% ginkgo flavone glycosides) is the extract standard nearly the whole evidence base was built on. Kang 2002, a small early RCT in 37 adults on fluoxetine or paroxetine, was positive; three later RCTs were null, which is why the effect direction here reads null. This floor is about the extract and dose standard, not a promise of effect.
Secondary
900 mg open-label pilots (historical only) · 900 mg over 4-8 weeks · Primary endpoint missed — Ashton 2000 and Cohen 1998, open-label pilots at 900 mg per day. Kept as historical context only: we do not present 900 mg as a target, and the controlled trials at the standard dose did not replicate the pilots.
Safety red flags
- On warfarin, a DOAC, aspirin, or any antiplatelet drug: talk to the prescriber who manages those drugs before starting ginkgo.
- Stop and call a clinician for any unusual bruising, nosebleeds, blood in stool or urine while using it.
Label reading notes
- Compare the label with 120-240 mg per day of EGb 761-style standardized extract; "ginkgo leaf powder" is a different product category.
- Honest scope: for antidepressant-associated sexual dysfunction the controlled trials came back null. This page is about dose, not about promising an effect.
- On warfarin, DOACs, or antiplatelet drugs the pairing raises bleeding risk (VA cohort: +38% with warfarin, Stoddard 2015, PMID 26958257, tracked in our interaction base).
